Small victories.

The other day I repeated the treacherous journey that I made a week ago, which are discussed in in several tiktoks and on the earlier posts in this blog. I was fine thankfully. But I did run into a repeat problem, something that was there last week and was still in my way yesterday morning.

A white van with orange images and white and black text blocking a pavement on a corner next to a pole.

I ran into this van.

The same van that had meant that I had to go into the middle of the road on a corner in the dark last week.

After posting this again to my Facebook group it was suggested that I contact the email address on the van and explain my access problems because of this van.

I did this and received a reply shortly after. To my surprise on the return home this van was no longer there and therefore I was able to take this corner on the pavement. Which is a much safer option I think you will agree.

I did not expect such a response or action when I raised concerns of this with with the Facebook group and then the company. I was very pleasantly surprised.

It felt nice to know that I was actually able to make a difference to my own accessibility and no doubt the accessibility of others.

Perhaps this blog, and my social media posts will become more then just raising awareness and a tool for catharsis. Maybe they, or I, can actually lead to some real change in the world.

Somewhere it seems some are listening to me, and you know what that makes it worth the hate.

Hi, I’ve also had similar situations like this, and one thing that people are really bad about doing is parking so close to sidewalks that the front of their vehicles protrudes into the sidewalk space in front of businesses or restaurants. Sometimes I either have to turn around, or drive one side of my chair into the grass or mulch if it doesn’t appear to be too soft. Thankfully I’m always with my family or friends in case I do get stuck, but people should park smarter than they do. I just followed your blog, I’m looking forward to reading future posts from you! 🙂

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I’m sorry you know what this feels like, but I’m very glad you are able to relate to the post.

I can also travel most places a lot easier with family members. My belief is that I shouldn’t have to and I should be able to travel independently when I want to.

Thank you for following. Let me know if there’s anything I can do to improve your experience, any better format or colour or anything like that I can use. I really appreciate you being here 💜

You’re welcome for the follow! I like how you have your page setup, and the colors, so no change is needed! 🙂 If you don’t mind me asking, do you like using WordPress? Are you paying for the extra features on here, or are you using their free blogging platform? My family and friends have tried to get me to start my own blog for like the last 2-3 years, but I keep procrastinating and seem to be content on following other blogs. I’ve looked into WordPress, Blogger, and Wix, but I like the layout on here better. I think talking about my own journey and injury would be beneficial, kind of a positive outlet for me to talk about whatever, but I just need to stop talking about it and start one already! LOL

I’m glad you like the way the site is set up, I want it to be as accessibile to everyone as I can make it, so that’s really good to know.

I definitely do like WordPress I won’t lie it took a lot of googling to figure out how to set it all up, but once I had it set up it’s been very easy to update as and when I want with the Jetpack app.

I am paying for a yearly for a personal domain this cost me £36, I just like that the web address looks cleare. But I don’t think it’s worth paying for a theme as there are lots of free easily customisable themes.

I’ve tried many different versions of a personal blog over the years on all three of those sites and I ended up deleting them all. I found Wix was to complex for me and Blogger just didn’t look as nice on the phone. I always come back to WordPress honestly.

I can definitely understand how talking about your own journey would be a good outlet for you. I’ve been in that position as well, where I’m just talking about it a lot. And you’re right honestly you just need to do it, but it is easier said than done.

I would say that I recommend sticking with the free version until you’re fully sure you want to stick with it, having cancelled many blogs I wouldn’t want you to waste money on something you weren’t completely ready to commit to. You can always upgrade to something later on.

I hope you decide to do it. And would definitely give you a follow. Hopefully I’ve given you some answers. Good luck with it all. 😊
